Illustrations from the ornithologist John Gould's A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds, published in London in 1849-61. Gould was an obsessive collector of specimens and designer and publisher of more than 3300 plates.  His wife Elizabeth Gould and later other notable artists such as Edward Lear executed the finished drawings to his design which showed remarkable detail and movement.

Digitally remastered in the USA with exceptional quality from original works of art including subtle detail and patina.  Printed in Australia on fine art archival museum grade 310gsm cotton rag watercolour paper with archival pigment inks.  

Dimensions:  A3 / 42cm high x 29.7cm wide / 16.5" high x 11.7" wide.
